Parental Assistance

During parent meetings in 2018 it became apparent that many parents would like to assist the group in ‘behind the scenes’ roles that would benefit the running of the group, support the leaders and youth members. The following is a summary of roles that are available. Please contact the Group Leader directly to volunteer your services in whatever capacity you have.

Scarf Sewing

Keep a stock of Upwey scarves ready for new member investitures. This role can be shared by a number of people with access to a sewing machine and involves:

Sewing the yellow tape and the Upwey badge on navy scarves (already hemmed). Scarves, tape and badges will be supplied by Group Leader.

Formation of a Fundraising subcommittee

As there are a number of scout parents that have worked on Jamboree fundraising events – we could form a subcommittee who could run the regular fundraising events – sausage sizzles, and even create new fundraising events for the group.

Current fundraisers we have are:

  • Billy Cart sizzle
  • Lantern Parade
  • Trivia Night
  • Film Nights
  • Christmas Trees
  • EOY BBQ
  • Bunnings BBQ
  • Raffles

Maintenance Special Projects

Working under the guidance of Ken & Eric Y – undertake painting of internal walls

Assist with redesign of toilets – Plans, sourcing materials

Photo Curator

Most leaders would have a chunk on their harddrive or phone of scout photos.  Someone with the right skills could set up an online library to store and index photos, so they were kept and accessible (by invitation only) to the group.

Grant Writer

  • Source and apply for grants for group.
  • Keep stock of grant proposals for reuse.
  • Applicable for equipment, projects and Hall upgrades.

Article Writer

Compose article of scouting events suitable for publication in Group newsletter, website and local papers.

Q-Store Committee

Be part of a group of parents to meet during Scouts and keep Q-Store in order.

Create a register and stocktake items in the QStore – identify possible end of life for items.

Tradespeople list

Compile and maintain a list of tradespeople in district willing to provide services at discounted rates.  Offer free advertising on website.

If you would like to volunteer or discuss further, please contact the Group Leader.
