Joey Mob – ACTIVATE
By Monique (Echidna)
Term 1 2018 saw the return of Joeys Scouts to 1st Upwey. After advertising in local school newsletters, we reached capacity before we started(!) and are thrilled to report that our mob is thriving.
Our leaders are Kookaburra (Emily), Echidna (Monique) and regular special guest appearances by Rama (Eric) and Akela (Judith) sharing their scouting enthusiasm with the Joeys! Our program has included predominantly exciting hallbased activities in Term 1 including the nights based on ‘Mission Impossible’, ‘Going Gaga Baby’ and ‘Donutters’ and others which explored the Joey theme of Caring and Sharing and the Joey Mob Buddy and Environment scheme badges.
We had Joeys represented at the district canoeing event and our first excursion was cleaning up Main St, Upwey for Clean Up
Australia Day – we sang lots of songs while we were at it!
We have been lucky to have received the help of a keen group of Scouts including Felicity, Hamish, Jess, Sam and Rylan.
Foresters Venturer Riley has helped all Term and has been a popular addition to our mob and we sincerely thank him for committing to our mob in the midst of his secondary studies – what a star! We are very excited that Joey’s in Term 2 will include a disco run by Riley too!
We have also had help from local Rover Hannah. In Term 2 we will be working on our Environment Scheme Badge and can’t wait for our campfire with the Venturers.
Our parents have committed to a parent roster which has meant we have had an outstanding amount of help and support at weekly activities which ensures our sessions run smoothly and makes our leaders very happy 🙂
We are lucky to have been welcomed into such an inclusive and friendly group and we look forward to many more Joey scouting adventures with 1st Upwey in years to come.
